About

I’m a 42-year -old working mother of three, who’s had an ileostomy since 1999. My surgery was for Crohn’s disease. Thanks to surgery and making some serious dietary changes (bye bye wheat), I’ve been doing really well on the Crohn’s front.

While I’m no fashion plate, I like to look polished and professional. My ileostomy is placed unusually high (yes, there are reasons associated with that…but it’s still a drag) so it is at or above most waistbands.  Slowly over time, and from trial and error, I’m more accustomed to what clothes work on me. But, it’s still a challenge!

  1. I just found your blog (from a post on Facebook by OstomySecrets). I had my ileostomy surgery (for Crohn’s) in Jan 2010. Still struggling with clothing issues. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one. I’m 37 and a mother of 3. Thanks for posting. I’ll be back.

  2. Ladies, I’m sorry to hear that you are having such a difficult time finding clothing now that you have your ileostomies. I had my surgery when I was 15 years old (1972) so I understand your pain however it’s only as big an issue as you make it. There are many ways to hide your appliance and still look lovely. I think the biggest issue isn’t finding the right clothing but how you feel about your new body image. The important thing is to remember that you are still the same beautiful woman you were before the surgery.
